Jane A. Bassett is an attorney in private practice in Ann Arbor. She began her solo practice in 1994. The firm now includes three attorneys; Ms. Bassett, Alison Ogilvie & Sheryl Manning, and a staff which includes Linda Durham, a 15 year veteran of the Probate Court and former Probate Register. Jane Bassett focuses on probate,  elder law and estate planning matters including probate administration, special needs trusts, nursing home and Medicaid issues, elder abuse and other issues of concern to seniors and disabled individuals.  She also works with domestic partners on matters relating to domestic and parenting agreements.

Ms. Bassett is a graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy Law School (1994) and has a Masters in Music from Eastern Michigan University (1998) and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Albion College (1982). She is a resident of York Township. Ms. Bassett was a founding member of Cambios, Inc., a non-profit working to stop racism and promote respect by training teachers, bringing multicultural literature to elementary schools and sponsoring special presentations by diverse authors and storytellers in Lenawee County. Ms. Bassett has served on the Board of Directors for the Housing Bureau for Seniors in Washtenaw County,.  She is a founding member and the Vice President of the Coalition for Adoption Rights Equality, Inc, and a charter member of the National Family Law Advisory Committee of the National Center for Lesbian Rights.

Jane Bassett is a member of the Michigan State Bar, Elder Law and Advocacy Section, Probate and Estate Planning Section, the Washtenaw County Bar Association, and the Stonewall Bar Association.

Sheryl J. Manning practices in the areas of elder law and Medicaid planning, estate planning, probate, adoption and juvenile law. She is particularly interested in estate planning for families with special circumstances, including families with special needs children, disabled adults, or families with domestic partner parents.

Ms. Manning earned her undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University, and her law degree from the George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C.  Ms. Manning joined Bassett & Associates in 2005.  Prior to that, she practiced with law firms in Chicago, Illinois, focusing on medical malpractice and product liability defense litigation, and in Oakland County, Michigan, focusing on litigation in business, employment, and environmental law.  Ms. Manning is certified by the National Guardianship Foundation as a registered guardian, and is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, including the Elder Law and Advocacy Section and the Probate and Estate Planning Section; the Washtenaw County Bar Association, including the Estate Planning and Juvenile Law Sections; and the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan.   She lives in Ann Arbor with her husband and two children, and is an active volunteer in her children’s schools.

Alison Ogilvie qualified as a solicitor in her native England in 1985. Before coming to the United States, she worked as a legal advisor to the English lay judiciary concentrating primarily on criminal and domestic cases. In 1994 she gained an LLM from Wayne State University and was admitted to the Michigan Bar in 1995.

Alison has worked with Jane Bassett since 1996, and joined the firm as an associate in 2000.  Her practice covers Real Estate Transactions.

Memberships include the following: Law Society of England & Wales, Michigan State Bar, Washtenaw County Bar, Probate & Estate Planning Section of Bar, and the Real Estate Section of Bar.
